Senior Befriender
The Active Ageing Centre seeks to improve the health outcomes of seniors living in the community through provision of a suite of programmes to help seniors live healthier lives and support their aspirations to age in place. Volunteers will provide weekly befriending to socially isolated seniors in the community.
- Event timing: Flexible
- Frequency: Once a week, min 6 months
Senior Befriender
You will help:
- Befriend 2-3 seniors in the community and encourage them to attend holistic social wellness programmes at the Filos Active Ageing Centre.
- Make 2 phone calls and 2 house visits to each senior per month (i.e. once a week).
- Re-engage the seniors with the community and keep them mentally active through mind-stimulating activities.
- Monitor seniors’ health status and needs. Inform Filos of seniors’ social needs so we may link them to services.
- Provide relevant updates to staff on elderly's progress through monthly reports.
Volunteer Requirements:
- At least 21 years old (Volunteers who are at least 17 years old will be considered on a case-by-case basis)
- Passionate about working with elderly to promote active ageing
- Able to travel to beneficiary’s home in Bedok/Chai Chee and complete simple reports
- Ability to converse in Mandarin/dialects would be an advantage
- Befriending skills and experience is NOT required but would be an advantage
